Do you always have space in your stomach for sugary foods even after having a filling meal?

Then you just might be a sweet tooth. Sugar craving must not be confused to hunger.

Hunger is your body calling for energy whereas sugar craving is your brain asking for the release of serotonin which is a feel good chemical found in the brain. Sugar as a carbohydrate stimulates the brain to form serotonin.

It is advisable to note that high sugar consumption may lead to obesity.

Do the following in order to curb your sugar craving

Drink water

Dehydration may lead to your brain craving for sugar. Drinking plenty of water helps keep your body hydrated and ready to go. This helps keep your brain of sugar

Don’t starve yourself

Most people avoid eating at all to avoid consuming sugar. This is a wrong approach if you want to get rid of sugar craving.

Once you starve yourself, you experience hunger and trust me, you don’t want to be hungry and craving for sugar at the same time because the urge is strongest at this time.

Eat regularly and healthy to get rid of sugar cravings

Eat healthy and to your fill

Choose to eat foods rich in proteins such as fish, meat and eggs and also take healthy fats.

Also eat till you are really full. This will ensure that your body has enough energy to take you through the day and it keeps your mind of sugary foods.

Also avoid processed foods and stick to healthier meals.

Avoid artificial sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners sound like a good plan but they are not. Instead choose to source your sugar from fruits and other naturally occurring sugars.

Avoid added sugar at all costs and with time your sugar cravings will go down.

Avoid stress

High stress levels may lead to inflammations that trick your brain into wanting more sugar. Read a book or take a nap in order for you to have a peace of mind.

Being stress free will help you stay away from that cookie or cake you take to feel good.

Take a hot shower

If you’ve had a long day at work or you are just from exercising, take a long relaxing hot shower.

Taking a hot shower helps you relax and eases your mind just like a few minutes in the sauna does. Do this to keep your brain off that sugar craving.

Chew gum

Chewing gum might also help you get rid of that sugar craving you have. This is because it keeps your brain engaged and tricks it into thinking you are full.

Take a walk

Walking outside is a really good way to get rid of your sugar craving. First, walking keeps you away from food and secondly it triggers your brain to release endorphins which cause a feel good effect.

This curbs your brain from requesting sugar which causes the same effect.

Combine foods and eat regularly

Try combining your favorite junk meal with healthy foods. This will slowly get you into eating healthier and with time you will learn to avoid sugary foods.

Also eat regularly to keep yourself from filling hungry and having those sugar cravings.
